Do you use yield maps?

Yield maps, if accurate, can serve as a good report card of what has occurred in your field that year. However, yield maps are different every year and even when using a 10-year average, they don't tell you why the yield was at a certain level in one area and different in another. We know that if you isolate various areas of your field (create zones) based on soil electrical conductivity, topography, and water/nutrient movement you can build a reliable, consistent foundation (SWAT MAP) from which meaningful soil samples can be taken each year. Therefore, using the information we need to make recommendations based on soil potential rather than past yield results.

    • Why use 10 zones for SWAT MAPS zone maps?

We take pride in high resolution maps so 10 zones are required. This allows enough flexibility to vary rates of product across fields with significant variability. We know some fields with minimal variability may require less than 10 different rates ...
    • What rate do you use for "out-of-bounds" areas?

You can use whatever rate the client request but typically you will apply the field average rate to the areas "out-of-bounds". If it is known that out-of-bounds is a slough or breaking, the prescription can be set to apply rates matching that area. ...
    • Can I use the SWAT BOX on my own equipment to collect EC data?

Yes, if you have access to very accurate elevation data such as LIDAR or RTK using a mobile base station. In some cases, elevation data from your own equipment can be used but the quality of data would first need to be assessed by our map developers.
    • What is the SWAT BOX?

SWAT BOX is a developed autonomous mapping system. The system logs soil electrical conductivity (EC) and elevation data if an RTK GPS system is made available. It can be mounted to trucks, all terrain vehicles, and a variety of Ag equipment and only ...
